In the early hours of a recent Sunday morning a giant 500-tonnes, 110m crane lifted a second 52 metre tower-crane into position, piece-by-piece, within the inner courtyard at Dublin’s iconic GPO. The crane now lifts building material of all types and sizes over the roof of the building, enabling ongoing construction works for GPO: Witness History, a world-class interpretive exhibition centre.
Through an immersive experience which will entertain and inform visitors of all ages and interests from home and abroad, the 1,600 sq metre centre will bring to life the personal stories of those involved in and impacted by the Irish rebellion.
The overall development – one of the State’s seven key projects for 2016 – will cost €7.8 million.
